Abu Dhabi - Arab Today
Pink Fitness Week will take place from October 21-24
Women in Abu Dhabi are being given the opportunity to kick-start a healthier lifestyle and support the national drive for breast cancer awareness by participating in the Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy\'s Pink
Fitness Week.
The ladies-only event, run to support the Health Authority Abu Dhabi\'s (HAAD) Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Cancer Wave campaign, is a series of top-quality fitness classes led by fully-qualified instructors from Abu Dhabi Country Club. There will also be medical experts from HAAD on hand to offer advice on healthy living and the importance of self-examination.
Pink Fitness Week takes place from October 21-24 at the Family Development Foundation Sports Hall from 7-8pm. Classes include pilates, body combat, zumba, and yoga .
During morning sessions Pink Fitness Week instructors will host free fitness classes for students from various universities around the capital, followed by a healthy breakfast and a seminar on breast cancer awareness by Tawam Hospital.
The Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy was established in 2010 to promote the importance of increased sports participation to women in the UAE, especially the Emirati population. Chaired by Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Academy organises and supports events that assist in the development of women in sport.
While the classes during Pink Fitness Week are targeted at Emirati women, they are open to all women.
\"Pink Fitness Week is a key event on our calendar this season,\" said Dr. Omniat Al Hajeri, Board Member Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy and Director of Public Health and Policy Division Health Authority Abu Dhabi.
\"The Academy advocates sport as a vehicle to create generations of confident, healthy women in the UAE and not only does this event introduce women to the health benefits of attending a regular fitness class, it also promotes the very important message of breast cancer awareness through this link-up with Health Authority Abu Dhabi.
\"We would encourage any women who have been planning to start a healthier lifestyle to come along and try some of the classes. This is the ideal way to experience the camaraderie that exists in a group class in a relaxed and culturally acceptable environment. We hope it is an experience that will inspire a regular fitness regime among the women who take part.\" Pink Fitness Week will also lend its support to Pink Caravan, a Friends of Cancer Patient Society (FOCP) initiative, which raises awareness and funds for breast cancer and works towards offering free mammograms for all.
Dr Sawsan Al Madhi, Secretary General of Friends of Cancer Patients charitable society and Head of the Pink Caravan\'s Medical and Awareness committee said, \"We are honoured to have the support of Fatima bint Mubarak and Fatima bint Hazza Al Nahyan and we are also very excited to be promoting the charity in Abu Dhabi.
Breast cancer is an issue that affects the entire community and encouraging women to take on a proactive role in ensuring their own health is an extremely important facet of raising awareness. Pink Fitness week is a wonderful initiative where fitness and awareness join hands and we look forward to being part of the campaign.\"
