National campaign to combat violence against women
Under the slogan "Let's put an end to their suffering, let's stop violence", Morocco Ministry of Solidarity, Women, Family and Social Development, in partnership with the Foundation for National Cooperation and Social Development Agency
, organised a national campaign to combat violence against women.
The campaign included seminars, round tables and communicative open meetings to discuss the various problems related to violence against women in Morocco as well as necessary measures to prevent and annihilate them. The meeting also looked into the role of civil society organisations and citizens in combating this violence.
More than 800 activists participated in this national campaign representing public sectors, civil societies, elected bodies, local authorities, universities, research centres and studies, as well as media representatives.
The campaign gave various local actors the opportunity to tackle the phenomenon of violence against women in terms of manifestations and dimensions, and to discuss its dangerous social, economic and cultural implications to society.
It came out with proposals on ways to fight this phenomenon by maintaining women's rights and to activating their roles in building the society on the one hand, and also establishing a culture based on the principles of fairness and gender equality on the other hand.
