Women in Ismailia protest against sexism in Egyptian politics

Women in Ismailia protest against sexism in Egyptian politics Political activists in the Egyptian city of Ismailia have called on protesters to light candles and hold a minute of silence in honour of International Women's Day on Friday. The action is to defend the deteriorating rights of Egyptian women, after a notable increase in violence and sexual harassment against female protesters following the country’s revolution in 2011.
Women’s right campaigners, who organised the mass protest on Facebook, said that they hope today’s event will highlight the marginalisation of women from Egypt’s political arena as well as they daily violence and abuse they face.
