29 children and their teacher were killed when a shell was dropped on their school

29 children and their teacher were killed when a shell was dropped on their school The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has condemned the deadly shelling of a school on the outskirts of Damascus on Tuesday. Twenty-nine school children were killed with their teacher. Maria Calivis, UNICEF’s Middle East and North Africa Regional Director, strongly condemned the attack:
“Since the violence in Syria began, schools have been looted, vandalised and burned.
“This is unacceptable. Schools are, and must remain, zones of peace.
“UNICEF renews its call for all parties to the conflict in Syria to abide by their obligations under international humanitarian law and to ensure that all children are protected at all times.”
The news agency SANA reported that the shell was fired by “terrorists” without giving further details.
