Sexual violence in Egypt has attracted international criticism in recent weeks A school teacher was murdered and a student raped in two separate incidents in the Canal city of Suez, local media reported, all within hours of General Tariq Nasser becoming Security Director. An unemployed man, 30-year-old Ahmed Mohamed Hassan, stabbed to death Hala Mohammed Abdul Qader, a 27-year-old school teacher in Salam City, Suez on Sunday
Preliminary investigations found the assailant was a neighbour in dispute with the teacher’s family.
Elsewhere in Suez, an electrician raped a student after visiting her home to read her electricity meter.
The young woman, 17-year-old Hiba Mohammed Afifi, reported the man had tied her up with electric cable and raped her, after discovering she was home alone.
The girl was then transferred to Suez hospital where forensic doctors began preparing a report into the incident, ahead of prosecution.
Afifi’s father contacted Arbeen police station to notify authorities of the crime, who passed on the report to General Tariq Nassar.
