Under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, U.A.E. Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation, ADMAF, presented Meera Rashid Al Mualla, Mina Watan Al Sheikhly and Saba Rahanjam, from the University of Sharjah's College of Fine Arts and Design, with the ADMAF Design Commission Award 2014.
The ceremony was held at the ADMAF Pavilion at Art Abu Dhabi and was attended by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and Hoda Al Khamis-Kanoo, alongside experts in the field.
Hoda Al Khamis, Founder of ADMAF, said, "Through initiatives like the Design Commission, ADMAF aims to inspire a new generation of creative minds capable of presenting contemporary art to a wider public. ADMAF is fully committed to the development of the U.A.E.'s visual arts and design industry and this year's pavilion at Art Abu Dhabi articulates the vision of the U.A.E. capital in encouraging the pioneers of the future to broaden the horizons of possibility." The ADMAF Design Commission enables ADMAF to celebrate the creative talent of the U.A.E. youth in both design and science. It also provides a platform from which to showcase this talent and generate awareness and recognition.
This year's applicants were encouraged to draw inspiration from the work of world-renowned architect, Zaha Hadid, in order to produce the ADMAF pavilion at the art fair.
The winners of the 2014 commission, Meera Al Mualla, Mina Al Sheikhly and Saba Rahanjam, were hugely successful in fulfilling the brief by creating a contemporary space that displays award-winning pieces by emerging Emirati artists and designers Fatima Fayrooz, Shakhbout Al Kaabi, Moza Obaid and Fatima Al Muhairi.
The ADMAF Pavilion can be found at the Art Communities Area at Art Abu Dhabi until 8th November at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Saadiyat Cultural District.
