Director General of Abu Dhabi Education Council Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), has opened the first forum for Best Practices in Learning Arabic. Organised by the ADEC's Curriculum Division, the forum is part of numerous initiatives to enhance and promote Arabic language.
The inauguration of the event was attended by Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Secretary General of Sheikh Zayed Book Award, Mohammed Salem Al Dhahiri, Executive Director for School Operations Sector, a number of officials, about 800 teachers from Abu Dhabi schools and representatives from universities and competent authorities.
Addressing the forum, Al Khaili stressed the importance of Arabic language in terms of acquiring knowledge and building personality of student, noting that "The Arabic language is the quintessence of our national identity. It is necessary for the student to learn about his/her heritage, Arab personality so as to be proud as an Arab and Emirati citizen." He added that the development of education focuses on excelling the Arabic language, as nations progress through quality of their education and extent of knowing and excelling the mother tongue.
For his part, Tamim commended the efforts being exerted by the ADEC to upgrade the Arabic language development programmes in the education field, citing holding of such gatherings to promote the status of the Arabic language.
The forum shed light on the efficient projects, successful experiences and effective practices in learning Arabic for all Arabic teachers across ADEC schools. It represents an opportunity for teachers to display their experiences related to best educational curricula and most effective educational methods used to achieve continuous development, which will reflect positively on the level of students.
The selection of the motto (Eye on Arabic Eye on Education) reflects the importance of Arabic language as it is the cornerstone of modern education. It is also the foundation of the cultural identity, which represents a key component of the development process in the UAE. Thus, there is a focus on promoting the learning of the Arabic language and the development of standards-based curriculum in accordance with requirements of the New School Model.
