Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan (C)

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, on Wednesday stressed on the importance of reading for building nations and generations.

He was speaking at Mubarak bin Mohammed School which he visited as part of "Abu Dhabi Reads", an initiative of Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) aimed at encouraging children up to grade 5 to develop their reading and writing skills. He was accompanied by Amal Al Qubaisi, Director-General of ADEC.

Sheikh Abdullah urged the pupils to indulge in reading and competing with peers to nurture their hobby through useful books during and after the campaign.

After a friendly chat and discussion with the pupils, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah read for them "The Clean Dirham", an allegory about the importance of using money to make others happy.

He also gave an interactive outline of the history of the UAE currency and advised the children on how to deal with the situations illustrated in the story. In a quiz, he also outlined the names of currencies of other countries.

Sheikh Abdullah emphasised the importance of learning from various experiences and gaining knowledge through reading in order to raise the awareness of society and enable it to contribute towards the making of the country's future.

He thanked the teaching staff of the school and urged them to double their efforts in order to achieve the best results through promoting love of reading and knowledge among students using modern methodologies and concepts that also promote love of excellence and creativity.

In the visitors' record kept at the school, Sheikh Abdullah expressed his appreciation for all the supervisors and teachers of the school.
