Journalists working for the Tunisian newspaper “Dar el-Sabah" organised a protest
Journalists working for the Tunisian newspaper “Dar el-Sabah" organised a protest inside the Tunisian constituent council against the appointment of their new director. The dispute followed after it was found that the
new director, Lutfi Touati, was employed by the government as a way to control the editing policy as well as previously being sentenced in judicial cases.
A delegation from the team met with the Vice Chairman of the Constituent Council, Mahrzah Obeidi, to discuss the matter. Obeidi promised to raise their query with the Prime Minister.
Deputies from the Tunisian council have promised to allocate a public session discussing the freedom of media — which has become one of the most dangerous issues in Tunisia. MP Hisham Hosni told Arabstoday: "I will personally raise this issue with the Tunisian PM in the meeting, which has been promised to be allocated for the matter of media freedom.” He added that he will also ask the Prime Minister, Hamadi Jebali, about the motives behind employing Lutfi Touati as the General Director for "Dar el-Sabah" newspaper.
