Galal Amer Cairo – Akram Ali Egyptian writer and cynic Galal Amer passed away early on Sunday, after a long struggle with his illness. His health state was severe, despite the success of his surgery. Amer underwent a surgical operation in the heart, following a stroke, and was then moved to the intensive care unit. This came after he had a severe heart attack on Friday afternoon.
Amer's son, Ramy Amer, said that his father was in good health until he went to the El-Sayala district in Alexandria where he became distressed watching clashes between pro-SCAF and anti-SCAF  protesters. His last words at the march were "Help Egyptians, they're killing each other".
Ramy Amer tweeted: "Galal Amer did not die. For how can an idea die? An idea lives forever. Goodbye father, I will see you soon."
Galal Amer is a prominent journalist. Born with the rise of the Egyptian 23 July Revolution in 1952,  he experienced its victories and setbacks. He graduated from the Military College and fought in the 1973 October War against Israel. He participated in the liberation of the city of Qantara East.
Amer studied Law at the Faculty of Law, in addition to studying Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts. He wrote short stories and published a daily column named "Takhareef" (Illusions) in Al Masry Al Youm.
Amer was one of the most acclaimed satirical writers in Egypt and the Arab world.
