A more compact supercar and one focused on directly challenging the Porsche 911's superiority, Mercedes's latest flagship will be officially revealed on September 9 ahead of its first public appearance at the Paris Motor Show in October.
Designed as a replacement for the outgoing SLS, which had insane acceleration, muscle car handling, and attention-seeking look-at-me gullwing doors, the AMG GT promises to be something both more subtle and refined, but no less exciting.
Mercedes has published no end of teaser videos and partially redacted images to stoke excitement ahead of the car's official reveal and as a result we have a pretty good ide of what to expect.
It is going to be powered by an all-new 4-liter bi-turbo 503bhp V8 engine and that should make it go like a rocket. Mercedes has also been quick to point out how long it has taken to develop the new car -- 32 months of engineering and road testing alone in 15 countries with 50 test drivers in sweltering heat and in sub-zero temperatures.
All of which means that it really will be a 911 challenger. What keeps the Porsche in continuous demand is that it is a supercar that is reliable and comfortable enough to drive every day. So expect the MAG GT to deliver the same sort of piece of mind but to also boast a range of creature comforts and cutting-edge technological driving and safety aids to boot.
