2015 UAE Healthy Kidney 10K Run in New York

This year's UAE Healthy Kidney 10K Run in New York, which was sponsored by the UAE Embassy in the US, saw 11,000 runners participate to benefit the National Kidney Foundation, NKF.

The 10km run, which pays homage to the UAE's founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed, was designed to raise awareness about kidney disease, its causes, preventive measures, and the importance of early detection. With the UAE and the US sharing a high incidence of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and high blood pressure; chronic kidney disease is a top priority on the healthcare agenda in both nations.

The Children's National Medical Centre is one of the key strategic partners supporting the event, which was first conceived in 2005 as part of a larger UAE initiative to strengthen its collaboration with the US in the healthcare field through supporting medical research, helping increase health awareness and facilitating knowledge sharing.

Prior to the run, an official UAE delegation led by Lt. General Mohammad Hilal Al Kaabi visited the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Paediatric Surgical Innovation at Children's National in Washington D.C. - both of which are important cornerstones in this ongoing UAE-US health partnership.
