Syrian singer Assala Nasry in the Mawazine Festival
Syrian singer Assala Nasry has said she is proud of her support to \"the Syrian people\'s uprising for dignity, freedom and democracy\". \"I can\'t remain silent about what my people suffer, these people are the ones who
taught me how to sing since I was a child, giving up my people is like giving up my dignity,\" Assala said, in a press conference held before her concert in the Mawazine Festival, in the Moroccan capital, Rabat.
Arabstoday asked Assala about the possibility of forming a coalition for the pro-uprising Syrian artists, which the Syrian star answered: \"I support the idea, but the implementation is not that easy, as Syrian artists have various opinions of the uprising.\"
Assala added: \"As for me, I have been clear since the beginning, and have stated my position more than once, whatever the consequences...so now what can they do to me? Expel me from the country? I have already left Syria to save my dignity, and I will always take the Syrian people\'s side, as I became a singer thanks to them.\"
Assala showed a remarkable frankness, when she lashed out at some Lebanese singers who voiced their support for Bashar al-Assad\'s regime and spoke negatively about the uprising, saying: \"Frankly, regarding this issue I don\'t respect them at all, whether they are superstars or minor singers, as my position in completely honest.\"
The Syrian singer praised the Moroccan people\'s \"courageous support\" to the Syrian uprising, stressing that Syrians were in need of every sort of backing from all Arab people.
In other developments, Assala commented on plastic surgery she underwent recently, especially regarding what was said about her fans\' dissatisfaction with her latest look.
\"Actually my husband is happy with this look,\" she laughed.
She added: \"The surgery is being made a big deal of only because I talked about it, unlike other singers have many surgical procedures, but deny it when they are asked about it. What I care about is that my fans are happy with both my voice and look, and I can feel that\".
