Khartoum - Abedalgoum Ashmeag
Sudan\'s Minister of Finance Ali Mahmoud said last month\'s cooperation agreement between Sudan and South Sudan could write off Khartoum’s hefty external debt, on Thursday.
The agreement has positively changed the atmosphere of negotiations about the debt, following his participation in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank meetings in Japan.
Sudan met all the technical standards of eligibility for debt relief as attested by the IMF and the World Bank, he added.
During their visit to Japan, the Sudanese delegation held meetings with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), an agency that provides assistance in economic and social growth to developing countries.
Two fund agreements worth $62 million were signed with the agency before the delegation left Japan, dedicated to projects in the states of Kassala, East Sudan and River Nile, North Sudan.
