Moscow - TASS
The former executive director of the Russian Basketball Federation Dmitry Domani accused of fraud has been extradited from Montenegro to Russia, the Interior Ministry’s Spokeswoman Irina Volk told TASS.
"Dmitry Domani, born in 1974, who is accused of committing three crimes regulated by Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (large scale fraud), has been brought from Montenegro today under the escort of employees of the Interpol National Central Bureau at the Russian Interior Ministry and the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service," she said.
The investigators believe that Domani concluded several sham contracts on behalf of the Russian Basketball Federation when serving as executive director, with enterprises he controlled. As a result, the Federation suffered significant material losses. In an attempt to avoid punishment, he left Russia. In 2016, Domani was charged with fraud, and he was placed on Interpol’s wanted list.
In March 2018, he was detained by Montenegro’s law enforcement forces.
