Egypt maintained its supremacy in the Arab Games after collecting a total of 233 medals in the 2011 edition in Qatari capital Doha, which ended on Friday.
With a tally of 90 gold medals
, 76 silver and 67 bronze, Egypt finished on top for the fourth successive Arab Games, having been the dominant force in 1999 (0man), 2004 (Algeria) and 2007 (Cairo).
Fellow North African country Tunisia finished as runners up with a total of 138 medals, including 54 gold, while Morocco came third with 113 medals, including 35 gold.
Hosts Qatar were fourth with 110 medals, including 32 gold.
Egypt’s gold triumphs included a 26-21 win over Qatar in the men Handball final and a 3-0 victory over the same opponent in the Volleyball final.
In the women’s Volleyball contest, Egypt also prevailed with a 3-1 win over Algeria in the final.
