Algeria and Spain have the "same geostrategic and economic interests," said Thursday in Algiers Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, Josep Borrell Fontelles.

"Algeria and Spain are neighbors and share the same geostrategic and economic interests," said the Spanish minister following his arrival in Algiers.

In this regard, he said that his country "wants to enlarge, diversify and deepen its relations with Algeria."

Algeria is Spain’s first supplier with natural gas.

Borrell Fontelles also sent greetings to President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika that "I had the honour to meet when I was President of the European Parliament," he said.

He invited his counterpart Abdelkader Messahel for a visit to Spain "to pursue the work as part of this neighborhood spirit and address small issues that the region is still experiencing," he added.

The Spanish minister arrived in Algiers for a working visit to Algeria at the invitation of his counterpart Abdelkader Messahel.
