Cairo - Arabstoday
The new film “The Bar” has been severely criticized after advertisements have been posted for it on the social network Facebook and the website YouTube. Many who have seen the advertisements for the film have called on people to boycott it due to the daring topics it presents and the allegations that it contains intimate scenes, profanity and was simply described as offensive. Scenarist Mustafa Salem, who wrote the film, clarified that he refuses to accept wrong judgment of the film before it is screened and strongly believes that once it begins playing in theater, people will thank him for such a wonderful film. He added that the film tackles political issues like the condition of Egypt in the era of ousted President Husni Mubarak and the transformation of Egypt into one big bar. The film also reflects the unjust treatment of Egyptians and the corruption imposed by the military and other topics like abusing children through child employment. Salem noted that the film “The Bar” is not in any way similar to the film “Cabarayh” and stressed that the new film does not contain any sex scenes and the attacks it has been facing is not based on any facts. The film stars Mohammad Maher and Ahmad Abd Al Aziz. It is written by Mustafa Salem and directed by Mazen Al Jabali.
