Still from Jews of Egypt: End of a Journey trailer

Amir Ramsis’ documentary Jews of Egypt: The end of a journey, was awarded the Silver FIFOG prize at The International Oriental Film Festival of Geneva, held between 20 and 29 March.
Jews of Egypt: End of a Journey is the second film in a sequel that looks at the lives of the descendants of old Jewish families in Egypt who refused to leave their country despite the humiliation and persecution they were subject to.
Filmed mostly between Cairo and Paris, the film is built on personal testimonials, giving the work a nostalgic quality in addition to its historical value.
“This year’s edition will be centered on the theme of love in all its forms. A particular emphasis will be laid upon films involving women, immigration and situations of emergencies within a setting of violence,” the festivals website states.
The festival is annually organised by FIFOG association, which promotes cinema, cultural dialogue and diversity. This year it was held in several venues in Switzerland including Grütli, Versoix, Lausanne and some cities in France.
