Algerian filmmaker Hassen Ferhani won Monday the first prize at the 26th Marseille International Film Festival (FIDMarseille), in France, for his latest movie "A Roundabout in my Head," the event's website has announced.

The panel of judges of the 26th Festival was "captivated" by the Algerian movie's pictures showing Algiers' slaughterhouses," the oldest in Africa still in operation, the media reported.

The 100-minute film, produced by Algerian filmmaker Narimane Mari, was previewed in Marseille.

Hassen Ferhani made his first production in 2006, a short film entitled "Algiers Bays," followed in 2010 by "Afric Hotel," co-directed with Nabil Djedouani.

In 2013, he made "Tarzan, Don Quichotte and Us," a short film produced in the capital, Algiers, and which was shown in a large number of African and European towns.
