Tim Robbins says he's aware of the connections some people are making between the escape of two prison inmates in upstate New York and his classic jail-break movie The Shawshank Redemption.
The actor addressed the comparisons on Monday's edition of Conan.
Asked by host Conan O'Brien if he has been pressed by the media to comment on the recent news story, Robbins joked, "Actually, those two guys called me about a month ago [and said,] 'What's your advice on this?'"
"I did get a few calls," he admitted. "For me, it's a different story. [My character] Andy was innocent. I'm not sure if these guys are guilty or innocent, but apparently a jury convicted them. I don't think there is much of a story [connecting the escape to the film.] It's like: 'O.K. That was a movie and this is real life.'"
"It's kind of like calling [Titanic star] Leo DiCaprio every time a boat sinks," O'Brien quipped.
