Channing Tatum could be exiting Gambit at 20th Century Fox.
The 35-year-old actor is planning on departing the upcoming Marvel standalone movie, reports The Wrap. Tatum was confirmed to play the character in future X-Men movies in May 2014, and Gambit was announced in January.
Director Rupert Wyatt and the studio had been testing young actresses, including Lea Seydoux, to star with Tatum. It is unclear if the actor and his producing partner, Reid Carolin, would remain as producers if he were to exit the film.
Tatum appeared at San Diego Comic-Con to promote the project earlier this month, and news outlets reported last week the movie will begin filming in October. One source admitted "something is up," but said Tatum is still in active negotiations.
Gambit is scheduled for release Oct. 7, 2016. Tatum last appeared in Magic Mike XXL with Joe Manganiello, and is also scheduled for Coen brothers comedy Hail, Caesar! with Josh Brolin and sequel 23 Jump Street with Jonah Hill.
