German Chancellor Angela Merkel will embark on a three-day trip to Africa on October 9 for talks on the root causes of Europe-bound migration, government spokeswoman Ulrike Demmer said Friday.

The talks will take place in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa as well as in other locations, Demmer said.
