The first meeting of a follow-up committee of a regional Arab program, will be held on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Arab League (AL) General Secretariat in Cairo.
The committee is meant to prevent and combat crimes, terrorism and health threats, while promoting the criminal justice system in line with the human rights international standards for the years (2016-2021).
The meeting is organized in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for the Middle East and North Africa, the Arab League said in a statement on Tuesday.
It is periodic and aims at assessing the activities and projects implemented this year, in addition to establishing a mechanism and setting a timeline for the programs to be implemented next year between Arab nations and the UNODC, it added.
These programs, it added, tackle issues of major importance as well, including combating terrorism, organized crimes, financial crimes and drug trafficking.
The meeting will be attended by representatives of the ministries of justice, interior and health in Jordan, the UAE, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Iraq, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, Morocco and Yemen.
