President of Yemen, Abed Rabbu Mansour Hadi, met today in Riyadh the UN Secretary-General's Envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh, within the framework of efforts being made to ensure the success of Kuwait consultations.
Yemen's official news agency quoted President Hadi as saying during the meeting, "We will go to Kuwait holding concerns of community and people who have been suffering from the scourge of war, siege and destruction imposed by the coup militia, who renege on consensus and the will of the people of Yemen expressed through the national dialogue outputs that call for secure and just future to build a new Yemen based on justice, equality and good governance."
The President of Yemen urged the UN to deliver urgent relief aid to the needy in various areas, especially in the province of Taiz, which suffers a lot due to the unjust siege.
For his part, UN envoy expressed great optimism for the success of peace, which has the blessing and support of everyone as well as the position of the international community in support of these efforts and steps. He hoped these steps would be associated with calm and positive media discourse so as to mobilise efforts and guide public opinion towards peace and consolidate the cease-fire.
Earlier, the Yemeni President met with the United States Ambassador to Yemen Matthew Tauler. They discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways of enhancing them in various levels. The meeting also dealt with the efforts to bring peace in accordance with the GCC initiative, and the implementation of the national dialogue outputs and terms of reference of United Nations resolutions including resolution 2216.
President Hadi praised during the meeting the efforts of the United States and the international community to achieve peace and restore the security and stability to all parts of Yemen.
For his part, the US ambassador to Yemen congratulated the Yemeni president on the positive steps towards peace, praising the efforts exerted to reach the cease-fire, which is an important first step towards achieving the goals and success of the subsequent step. He reiterated his country's support to President Hadi, citing his steps towards peace based on UN relevant resolutions, according to UAE News Agency (WAM).
