US envoy to the United Nations Samantha Power.

The US envoy to the United Nations Samantha Power will visit South Korea this week to discuss countermeasures against North Korea's latest nuclear provocation, a government source said Wednesday.

Power will arrive in South Korea on Saturday and will stay for four days, state news agency (Yonhap) reported. Her visit comes as the UN Security Council is working on a fresh resolution to punish the North for conducting its fifth nuclear test early last month despite repeated global warnings. The test is regarded as the strongest ever, raising worries that the North is getting closer to nuclear weaponization.

Demand is growing that the new resolution under consideration should include measures aimed at covering what many see as "loopholes" in the previous ones. She is to meet with South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se and other key diplomats dealing with the North and its nuclear weapons program, the source said.
