President Abdel Fattah El Sisi

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a meeting with Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker on Monday and underlined the need to resume efforts to improve the efficiency of services provided to citizens and spread the culture of power rationalization.

The minister presented a report to the president on the signing of a contract to transform the system of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) into an independent network operator.

The move means separating the EETC from the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) to ensure neutrality when buying energy generated from power stations of the EEHC or the private sector, the minister said according to presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef.

Shaker also submitted a report on the performance indexes of state electricity companies, the spokesman said.

He reviewed the final status of contracts for establishing Dabaa nuclear stations, saying they are expected to be signed before the end of the year.

The minister reviewed power stations projects to be established in cooperation with German company Siemens and its local partners, noting that work is ongoing according to the set time frame.

The power stations of the new administrative capital and New Beni Suef City have been linked to the national power grid to carry out needed tests for their operation before the end of the year. They will produce 4,400 megawatts, the minister said.
