H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation and Head of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, on Wednesday received Wedad Babaker, wife of Omar Hassan al-Bashir, President of Sudan, at the al-Bahar Palace in Abu Dhabi.
Welcoming Babaker, Sheikha Fatima expressed the hope that relations between women’s organisations in the UAE and Sudan would help promote women’s causes and result in further achievements.
Babaker congratulated Sheikha Fatima on the occasion of the 45th UAE National Day and lauded the achievements made by the UAE in 45 years of the federation and union between the country’s leadership and people.
She commended the elevated status that the Emirati women have earned by making positive contributions in all areas of national action, supported by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the efforts made by Sheikha Fatima for women’s empowerment.
She also noted that Sheikha Fatima is playing a significant role in women’s development and taking initiatives to support children and mothers, and protect the youth at home, both regionally and globally.
Babaker thanked Sheikha Fatima for the warm welcome and the hospitality accorded to her in the UAE.
Sheikha Fatima later hosted a luncheon in honour of Babaker, which was attended by Sheikha Salama bint Hamadan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; Sheikha Khawla bint Ahmed Khalifa Al Suwaidi, wife of H.H. Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor; Sheikha Al Yaziya bint Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation; Dr. Maytha bint Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State, military women officers, wives of UAE Armed Forces officers, and the wife of the Sudanese Ambassador to the UAE.
