Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark’s Diocese Tawadros II met on Tuesday with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono.
Egypt's Ambassador to Japan Ismail Khairat attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Pope Tawadros expressed happiness with this visit which is the first one to the Asian state since he assumed his post in 2012.
Pope Tawadros asked the Japanese minister to ease measures needed for the residence of an Egyptian priest to serve at the first ever Coptic church in Japan.
He gave Kono a gift of a painting entitled "Flight into Egypt".
The Flight into Egypt Plaque is an heirloom-quality gift that will be admired and cherished for many generations to come and will serve as an ongoing reminder that the Holy Family was once seeking refugee in Egypt.
