Jeddah/New York - Arab Today
Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Ameen Madani met Wednesday with Yemeni President Abd Rabbou Mansour Hadi in New York on the sidelines of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.
An OIC statement said Madani reiterated the organization's constant support for Yemen's unity, sovereignty and political independence.
The OIC will always reject any interference in Yemen's domestic affairs, Madani told Hadi.
He expressed full solidarity with the Yemeni people, who are seeking freedom, democracy, social justice and comprehensive development.
The OIC supports the constitutional legitimacy in Yemen and national efforts exerted by the Yemeni government to achieve security and political and economic stability in the Arab country, Madani further said.
Hadi, for his part, appreciated OIC support for his country in this critical stage of Yemen's history.
He hailed as "important" resolutions of the Islamic summit and the council of foreign ministers about developments in Yemen.
The meeting also took up preparations for a conference to provide humanitarian and development support for Yemen.
Madani and Hadi stressed the need to deliver urgent aid to face the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
The OIC chief also met with Sudanese Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour to discuss preparations for a coordination meeting of foreign ministers in New York Thursday, as well as the agenda of another ministerial meeting in Tashkent next month.
Madani and Ghandour probed means to follow up the implementation of resolutions reached in Kuwait in 2015 and Istanbul in 2016 to show solidarity with Sudan.
Ghandour posted Madani on the latest developments in Sudan.
