Baghdad/Tehran - Arab Today
Former Iraqi prime minister and head of the State of Law coalition Nouri al-Maliki on Tuesday held two separate meetings with secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani and Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.
Maliki and the two Iranian officials discussed bilateral ties, cooperation at all levels particularly in combating terrorism as well as the latest political and security developments in Iraq, Maliki's media office said in a statement on Tuesday.
Iraq is facing major challenges despite the victories achieved through Operation We Are Coming Ninveh aiming to liberate Mosul from Daesh terrorist group, Maliki said on the sidelines of his meeting with Larijani.
The Iraqi figure, on that score, called on regional countries and the world for standing by Iraq in its war against terrorism.
On Sunday, Maliki, currently on a visit to Iran, held talks with Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
