Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, and the Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States for the Syrian Crisis Lakhdar Brahimi during the current session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York.
Lavrov will also take part in a meeting of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) foreign ministers, a meeting of the Middle East Quartet (which mediates the peace process in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict) and a meeting of the P5+1 (5 permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany) on the Iranian nuclear program, the Russian news agency (Itar-Tass) reported.
Several other high-level events are scheduled to take place during the current session of the U.N. General Assembly, including on nuclear disarmament and other pressing issues of the development agenda. The current 68th session of the U.N. General Assembly started in New York on September 17 under the chairmanship of John Ashe of Antigua and Barbuda. The Russian delegation is led by Foreign Minister Lavrov.
