Cairo - Arab Today
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his visiting Libyan counterpart Mohamed Taher Sayala conferred Tuesday on obstacles facing the political process in Libya.
The meeting also took up ways to support the different Libyan parties and encourage them to reach a consensus in order to implement the Skhirat Agreement.
Shoukry told Sayala the Skhirat Agreement is pivotal to help restore stability in Libya and reactivate the role played by national institutions there, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
The Libyan people should be given the chance to determine their priorities and choices without any foreign interference, Abu Zeid quoted Shoukry as having said.
This, he told Sayala, should be done through engaging all Libyan parties, without any exclusion, in a positive dialogue, the spokesman added.
For his part, the Libyan foreign minister appreciated the role played by Egypt in support of the Libyan problem and the Skhirat Agreement.
He urged all Libyan parties to cooperate to implement the political agreement.
The top diplomats stressed the need for all Libyan parties to work on trust-building measures that would help overcome the current crisis and reach a national consensus, the spokesman noted.
