Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza received German Ambassador Alfred Simms Protz and Chairman of the Bahraini German Business Council Bernd Hoefer, along with officials from the fields of electricity, water and renewable energy.
Dr. Mirza praised the development of relations between Bahrain and Germany, in particular with regard to exchanging experiences in these fields. The minister also praised the efforts of the Bahrain-German Business Council to attract German businessmen and investments to contribute to the economic development of Bahrain.
The minister gave a presentation to the German delegation and reviewed Bahrain’s plans in the fields of renewable energy, especially solar energy.
The minister commended the directives of the Coordinating Committee under the chairmanship of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister for investment in renewable and sustainable energy.
The minister also spoke about the important steps taken by the government, the most important of which is the setting up of the Sustainable Energy Unit in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme.
The minister said Bahrain welcomed the participation of German companies in investing in renewable energy projects in Bahrain according to the available opportunities.
The ambassador and chairman of the Bahrain-German Business thanked the minister and the officials for the welcome and the hospitality and stressed their readiness to work towards further improving relations between the two countries.
The meeting was attended by Executive Vice President of Distribution and Customer Services at the Electricity and Water Authority Adnan Mohammed Fakhro, Executive Director of Sustainable Energy Unit Jehan Al Murbati and the minister’s adviser, Dr. Ahmed Hashim.
