The New York Mercantile Exchange said that Brent crude traded down 2.1 percent, at USD 59.80 a barrel on Tuesday, NASDAQ said.
It is the lowest since May 2009.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures for delivery in February, it added, traded at USD 55.73 a barrel, down 0.81 percent, after hitting an overnight session low of USD 53.96 a barrel and off a high of USD 57.43 a barrel.
