Google has updated it Gmail app for iOS so that links in emails will open in the necessary Google apps like YouTube and Maps if they're installed on the iPhone. Any links in the Gmail app will automatically go to either YouTube, Google Maps or the Chrome browser, one of these three apps if installed on your iOS device, Slash Gear reported Monday. Normally iOS just defaults to Safari and other iOS default apps, but Gmail users now will be able to choose whether they want a certain app to be used when opening up links. Google and other third-party iOS app makers have complained Apple prevents links from opening in third-party browsers, even when users have chosen that browser as the default app. Users who would rather stick with Safari or Apple Maps can change their settings within the Gmail app to specify which program should handle various links, Google said. The Gmail update is available in the Apple App Store.
