Ninety-eight percent of operating systems loaded on new computers before sale in China are genuine, according to a senior IT official. The number of legal copies of preloaded operating system installed has increased from 26 million to over 40 million annually from 2007 to 2010, taking 98 percent of the country\'s total, said Han Jun, deputy chief of the technology department with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said on Wednesday at the China Software Conference. China has been making efforts to promote genuine software, said Han. Apart from government efforts, Liu Chao, product director of China\'s renowned Kingsoft Corporation, said public demand for genuine software is also rising.
