Held in the capital Abu Dhabi on Friday, the 3rd Pain Management Seminar hosted lecturers from UAE and GCC countries and more than 260 doctors, medical technicians and nurses from within and outside the UAE. The seminar focused on the latest technology and advanced therapeutic methods for pain management. The seminar which is organized annually by Al Noor Hospitals Group under the continuing education program aims towards providing doctors and medical technicians with high quality medical fora to benefit from others' experiences and skills. The event had 12 lectures and scientific papers delivered in four scientific sessions by highly specialized doctors from hospitals in Abu Dhabi and GCC countries, where they focused in their lectures on treating pain, how to ease the pain of children, spinal pain, headache and internal organs' pain. Participants in the Forum discussed the recent trends in the treatment of pain and the importance of proper on-time treatment to avoid the shifting of pain from the acute to the chronic type. Dr. Kassem Alom, CEO of Al Noor Hospitals Group Abu Dhabi, focused in his opening speech on the importance of conferences, seminars and scientific meetings to exchange experiences through the discussion of difficult cases and the most appropriate treatment approach in accordance with the latest scientific methods and evidence-based medicine. Dr. Alom mentioned that many global researches are conducted annually to reveal more about the mechanism of pain and the most appropriate way to alleviate it, noting that the topics of the this year's seminar focused on pain in children and ways of its treatment, the role of imaging in acute and chronic pain, disorders that are accompanied with muscular pain and the culture and its role in the management of pain and other important topics. Dr. Antoine Salloum, the seminar director and consultant neurosurgeon in Abu Dhabi, said that the seminar included four scientific sessions. The first session focused on physiology and anatomy of pain and pain in children. The second session was dedicated to muscular pain, headaches, back pain and abdominal pain. The third session discussed pain from psychological, addiction and beliefs perspectives. The fourth session focused on the spinal cord and the role of radiotherapy in the treatment of pain, and ultrasonic waves and its role in the treatment of pain. Dr. Ammar Al-Salti, consultant Anesthesiology and pain therapy in Zayed military hospital in Abu Dhabi, presented three lectures in relation to postoperative pain, visceral pain and modern protocols in treatment of pain. Dr. Amin Al Gohary, Consultant Pediatric surgeon at AL Noor Hospital - Airport road presented a lecture about pediatric pain and how to deal with it. Dr. Leslie Al Jishi, Medical Director of Al Zahra hospital in KSA and consultant medical rehabilitation, lectured on the treatment and the importance of personal intervention in the treatment and how the patient's psychological composition determines the path of treatment. Dr. Aman El-Duwieni , Corporate Director of Continuing Medical Education at Al Noor Hospitals Group, said that the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi has accredited the seminar sessions for 6.75 CME hours of category 1 for the target audience of general practitioners, pediatricians, orthopedics, internists, general surgeons, obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neurologists, physical therapists, anesthesia technicians and rehabilitation and nursing cadres.
