North Korea launches upgraded Soviet-era ballistic missile submarine

North Korea has launched a submarine that is capable of
carrying ballistic missiles, a media report said Sunday, according to dpa.
Pyongyang "imported a Soviet-era Golf-class diesel submarine and
modified it," a South Korean government source told Yonhap News
Agency.
The submarine dates from the late 1950s and was taken out of service
in 1990. The vessel is 67 metres long and 6.6 metres wide and has a
displacement of around 3,000 tons, the source told Yonhap.
Military officers in South Korea said that the North has not yet
obtained the technology it needs to use submarine-launched ballistic
missiles.
