A newly-installed radar network at Kuwait International Airport has been operated, declared the Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Wednesday. The authority has recently received the KD 4.3 million radar network, said Fawaz Al-Farah, the head of the directorate, in a statement to KUNA. The directorate made a contract with a foreign company in September 2011 to import and install it. The network, installed at a new fully-equipped building, includes a long-range radar and another of short range, in addition to technology for automatic aircraft tracking and air targets. The network is wholly manned by nationals. Al-Farah said the directorate had tested the network for a month, in coordination with the company that executed the project. The new network will back up the old one, installed in 2000.
