Head of the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) Ja’far Mehrad announced that Iran is among the world\'s top 15 countries in science production, adding that the number of the country’s scientific articles indexed in the Scopus scientific scale has exceeded 22,000. “The number of articles by Iranian universities and research centers indexed in Scopus scale has hit 22,457 cases upgrading Iran’s  ranking in the world science production to 15,” Mehrdad said. He pointed to the 14 countries holding a better rank than Iran, and said, “The US, China, Britain, Germany, Japan, India, France, Italy, Canada and Spain are the world’s top 10 in science production, respectively, while their shares of global science production have remained unchanged.” \"Taiwan, Switzerland, Turkey, the Russian Federation and Sweden follow Iran, holding the 16th to the 20th standings,\" he added. “From a total number of 57 Muslim nations, only three countries, namely Iran, Turkey and Malaysia with the rankings of 15, 18 and 24, respectively, stand among the top 30 world countries in production of science,” Mehrdad lamented. He noted that reference to the scientific journal articles written by Iranian scientists has increased in recent years, which shows the quality of these articles. Iran has taken wide strides in science and technology, particularly in medical and medicinal fields, in recent years. Last year, an Iranian official announced that Iran stands 14th in the world ranking of biotechnological advancements. “Iran has attained desirable capabilities in the field of biotechnology in recent years and has ranked 14 among the 46 world states which are active in this arena,” Head of the Presidential Office’s Technological and Innovations Cooperation Center Hamidreza Amirinia said in Tehran in December. “Today the development of biotechnology has increased the level of social welfare, developed the exports market and created health tourism infrastructures in the country,” he added.
