Police seize 'illegal network for passing international calls' in Cairo

A complete system for illegally channeling international phone calls that caused more than EGP 15 million of losses to Telecom Egypt has been seized by police in Cairo, said security authorities.

The system was run by a man in a building in New Cairo's 5th Settlement district, using fixed lines contracted from Telecom Egypt, the main telephone company in Egypt.

The network has a capacity of 1,412 lines for international calls. Some 10,000 SIMs have been found with the man. Nineteen devices for passing calls were also confiscated.

The police estimated the seized equipment at EGP 1.5 million.

The arrested suspect was referred to the prosecution.
