The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) has organised a workshop on "Mechanisms for preparing international reports related to women", including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
The workshop aimed at highlighting Bahrain's commitment to international conventions and agreements in the field of women development.
In the presence of representatives from the Bahraini Women Union and other women's societies, SCW legal advisor Dr. Mohammed Waleed Al-Masri gave an overview of Bahrain's previous reports submitted to CEDAW, in addition to a brief on the methodology of preparing official reports by a national team that consists of representatives of legislative, executive and judicial branches in collaboration with civil society organizations for women.
Al-Masri said the reports should include brief information to highlight Bahrain's interest in promoting and safeguarding human rights in general and women's rights in particular. He added legislation on women and implementation measures, as well as anticipated obstacles and future measures should also be included.
He spoke about the directives and recommendations of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women with regard to the forms and contents of the reports and noted the need for including data and statistics to assist the committee to learn about Bahrain’s progress in implementing the provisions of the convention.
