Noura Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the General Women's Union, GWU, today met with a delegation of Iraqi women parliamentarians for community peace.
Al Suwaidi welcomed the Iraqi delegation and discussed with them aspects of cooperation between the two sides. The delegation praised the support of the General Women's Union for UAE Women.
The Director-General said that the UAE, under the wise leadership of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, provides unlimited support to the GWU. "H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of GWU, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, also made sure that Emirati women achieve their aspirations in a variety of fields, so that they are not only a source of pride for the UAE people but also the Arab and Islamic world," Al Suwaidi added.
The Iraqi delegation viewed a documentary film about the establishment of the GWU, its national strategy, and the union's most significant achievements. The delegation also recognised the efforts of the GWU in the field of empowering and qualifying women for political participation, through the adoption of several projects, including the plan to strengthen the role of Arab women parliamentarians.
Al Suwaidi said that the accomplishments of UAE women are among the top priorities of the UAE women's empowerment strategy, and enhancing the image of Emirati women in local, regional and international forums.
The delegation visited Al Jawhara hall in the GWU and expressed their appreciation for the awards won by H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak from many local and international authorities, in recognition for her exceptional achievements in humanitarian fields.
