A 60-year-old man fatally shot his wife, who allegedly had dementia, and his sister, who was in a vegetative state, Los Angeles police said Wednesday. The man, whose name wasn't available, allegedly killed his wife in the Canyon Country area of Santa Clarita and went to the Country Villa Sheraton Nursing Rehabilitation Hospital in Los Angeles' North Hills neighborhood where he killed his 58-year-old sister by shooting her once in the head, the Los Angeles Times reported. He then put down his gun and waited for authorities to arrive, police said. LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon said the sister had been in a vegetative state for five years after suffering a heart attack, the newspaper said. "According to family, the wife was suffering from dementia," Vernon said. "The sister was pronounced dead in the hospital bed." Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials confirmed homicide detectives were investigating the death of a woman in Canyon Country.
