The girlfriend of a millionaire found dead in his Fort Lauderdale, Fla., home late last month has been booked on a first-degree murder charge, police said. Police said 54-year-old Catherine Marie Pileggi surrendered to authorities to face a charge of murder in the death of 70-year-old Ronald C. Vinci, The Miami Herald reported Wednesday. Police found Vinci's duct tape-wrapped body June 28 at his mansion in a tony Fort Lauderdale neighborhood after receiving a 911 emergency call. Pileggi was booked into the Broward County Main Jail and held without bail. Law enforcement officials said the woman's relationship with Vinci recently soured. "She surrendered herself to Fort Lauderdale police after she was advised through a lawyer that she was wanted for first-degree murder," police spokesman Travis Mandell, a detective, said.= Investigators said they found pieces of evidence tying Pileggi to Vinci's death, although they did not describe what was found nor how Vinci was killed.
