Egyptian lawyer and human rights activist Shehab Farouk has filed an official complaint against Prime Minister Hisham Kandil, accusing him of slandering women from the northern city of Beni Suef. Kandil recently remarked that women in Beni Suef get raped whilst working the fields because their homes are not linked to a sanitation grid. Farouk demanded Egypt’s Prime Minister make a public apology for the comment, claiming it insulted both men and women.
