Enas Makkawi, Director of Women, Family and Children's Department of the General-Secretariat at the League of Arab States, has praised the wise leadership’s constant boosting of the Bahraini women’s status as part of the whole community development.
Ambassador Makkawi praised the directives of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of HM the King and President of the Supreme Council of Women, that contributed in this regard. She praised the selection of Manama as the Capital of Arab Women2017 involving all the efforts and activities that contributed in the interest of Bahraini women.
The Bahraini Women’s Day was interactive with all the events taking place in Arab and international arenas and the 160-day campaign aimed to eradicate all discrimination against women, Ambassador Makkawi told Bahrain News Agency. She stressed that the Kingdom’s moves in this respect are not only in the region but globally beyond.
The ambassador commended the progress and boosting of women activities since the launch of the UN Women’s Office in Bahrain. She noted the Supreme Council of Women (SCW)’s cooperation with the Interior Ministry in harmonizing women mechanisms with state mechanisms in monitoring violations, setting up databases that are thoroughly analyzed and action taken to find realistic solutions with the relevant bodies.
The ambassador cited the (Takatuf) project aimed to eradicate family violence. The project was launched in collaboration between the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs, Ministry of Labour and Social development and the Ministry of Health in addition to Women’s Protection Centres and family guidance specialists in this field. She lauded the successful project which she said will be generalized in the rest of Arab countries to benefit from the pioneering Bahraini experience of eliminating family violence.
