Health Ministry’s Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health, Dr. Mariam Al Hajeri, has participated in the extraordinary session of the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s General Programme of Work (2019-2023).
In her intervention d uring the meeting, Dr. Al Hajeri highlighted the Kingdom government’s efforts to achieve the sustainable health development goals (SDGs), noting the Organisation’s support in this regard.

The meeting reviewed the draft five-year programme of work, in line with the Organisation's constitution and vision for boosting health and safety needs of the world's underprivileged. The ambitious progrramme aims to make progress in health coverage, resilience and priorities, said Dr. Al Hajeri.

She stressed the importance of supporting countries to boost the progress in the health-related SDGs, to measure progress and success according to accomplished goals which include the health of women, children, adolescents, and to combat HIV and TB infections, Malaria and tropical diseases, poliomyelitis, non-contagious ailments, psychiatric and addictive disorders, road-related injuries , as well as the impact of environmental change on human health.

Dr. Al Hajeri highlighted Bahrain's progress in all fields of development, including infrastructures, services, medical and surgical supplies and equipment, whilst ensuring the efficiency and quality of these services in the governmental and private hospitals, health centres (HCs). She also cited the National Health Insurance Scheme as part of the National Health Strategy under the Supreme Council of Health (SCH)'s supervision and aimed to serve the citizens health needs.
