The number of children in Norway living poor families rose during the period 2002 to 2012, the Office of Auditor General (OAG) announced on Wednesday.
The proportion of children living in low-income families increased from 5 percent to 8 percent in Norway during the period, according to the survey results published by the OAG.
That means 78,000 children in Norway were living in poverty in 2012, said the OAG.
"This increase has reinforced the need for effective measures in municipalities," said the Norwegian auditor general Per-Kristian Foss.
The survey shows that neither the municipalities nor the state has done enough to make these children be able to participate socially in the community.
The municipality governments in Norway often know too little about who needs such help and what kind of measures need to be taken, the OAG said.
